I’ve been contacted by a significant number of constituents still stranded overseas. Airports have been closed and borders shut. Cities have been placed in lockdown. Many are trapped in hotels, often with money and food running out.
I’m doing all I can to raise each individual case with the Government and the Embassies. I’m concerned that we have young people on gap years who still don’t know if they can return home – their families are naturally very concerned. We also have people classed as being in the vulnerable age-group who have some health issues and at present we’re getting very little steer from the Government as to whether they have plans to bring everyone home.
It’s thought there could be up to 700,000 UK residents currently stuck in another country – but the fact the Foreign and Commonwealth Office doesn’t have an exact number is worrying in itself.
I’ll continue to do all I can to put pressure on the Government to bring everyone home.
