I’m deeply upset by the High Court’s decision to allow fracking for shale gas to go ahead in our county.
Weather dependent, Cuadrilla will tomorrow start the process of pumping water, chemicals and sand underground at high pressure to fracture shale rock 2km below the surface.
The operation is allowed to run from 9am-1pm on Saturday, and then 8am-6pm Monday to Friday. In all, the process is expected to take around three months.
Earlier this week, the world’s leading climate scientists warned warned fossil fuel use must be cut dramatically to limit temperature rises. They say there’s only a dozen years left for global warming to be kept to a maximum of 1.5C. Once it goes up by even half a degree there will be a significant risk of drought, floods, extreme heat and poverty for hundreds of millions of people – including us here in the UK.
This Government needs to stop trying to force fracking on our county and our country and do the moral and smart thing and invest in renewable energy. When will it listen and accept that we DON’T WANT FRACKING. We must keep on fighting to protect our planet.
