Roadworks causing misery
Roadworks causing misery

I know many of you have been having an awful time trying to get to work, meetings and engagements over the last few days due to the temporary traffic lights and roadworks on Mains Lane, the A585 at Skippool. Traffic has backed up over the Shard Bridge to Hambleton. At least one school trip had to be cancelled last week as the coach got stuck in the gridlock. Elsewhere constituents have endured delays of up to an hour on what is usually a 5 minute stretch of road.

No prior notification appears to have been made of the work, and there is no indication of when the work will be completed. Similarly, many constituents have said that the work is being completed very slowly.

I have been in touch with Highways England, the agency responsible for managing roadworks on trunk roads. I have asked why the road works have not been carried out in the evening as the area has few residential properties. Instead they’ve chosen to agree to the works being carried out during the day, including rush hour, thereby creating  extreme congestion on the only major route directly into and out of Fleetwood.

I’ve not had a response and I’ve been told it may be Monday before someone gets back to me. I’ll be calling them again tomorrow.
