Tonight Labour successfully passed a motion in Parliament to ban bonuses for water bosses – something the Government has stubbornly refused to do.

£14m in water executive bonuses were paid out by us in 2020/21, despite them dumping raw sewage into our rivers and seas for hundreds of thousands of hours.

That is money that should be invested in our infrastructure and communities. We must stop rewarding their failure.

Strengthening regulator powers to ban bonuses, grant automatic fines, and put the water industry under special measures is the right first step in tackling the sewage crisis.
