It is fantastic news that £1.3bn will be invested by EDF and 1500 high skilled local jobs have been saved now that it’s confirmed both power stations in Heysham will receive life extensions!

I was pleased to work with the Labour-led Lancaster City Council leader Philip Black earlier this year to help secure a positive decision for Heysham 1 and 2, and I know that this has been an immediate priority for Lizzi Collinge MP, who was in conversations with ministers and Great British Nuclear just days after she was elected to represent the Morecambe and Lunesdale area.

This will help limit the UK’s dependence on imported gas, bolster the UK’s energy security and support plans for the rapid expansion of renewables by helping to maintain stability of the grid.
