I recently had the pleasure of visiting Farm Yard Ales on Gulf Lane in Cockerham. Steve Holmes and his team make the most amazing selection of craft beer working with partners like Blackpool Football Club and amazing artists who design the cans.

Farm Yard Ales can be found at Moss Edge Farm which has been in the Holmes Family for five generations. Steve is the sixth but he decided to buck the trend and start his own micro-brewery instead of running a farm.

With support from parents, friends, the Rural Development Programme and the NatWest, Farm Yard Ales was created and they built everything up from the ground by themselves including the steel-framed building and the sloping floors, all carefully designed to house a 2,000 litre brew plant. The brewery now has 10 of these 2,000 litre tanks showing the progress made in the last few years. Farm Yard Ales now has a core range of 8 beers and a whole host of weird and wonderful specials – and it has a fabulous tap room open Thursday – Sunday with live music and street food. (They’re also taking bookings for Christmas parties!)
