Defunct bus stop
Defunct bus stop

In October I was approached by local businesses who were concerned that since the bus stop shelter was removed from Fleetwood Road, the remaining bus road markings next to their shop and by the tram/traffic junction were deterring potential customers from parking, given that the road is already quite busy with signage for the junction.

LCC have now come back to us to advise: “We have now arranged to have the bus markings removed and the work will be completed within twenty working days. We will then continue to monitor the safety of traffic and parking along this stretch of Fleetwood Road.”

Whilst of course I’m saddened that bus stops and routes continue to be lost with cuts to public transport and I continue to successfully campaign to bring back rural bus services, this repainting comes as welcome news to the small and local businesses at this junction, who are naturally already struggling in the wake of Covid-19, cost of living and energy price pressures.

I am always keen to support local businesses if I can, and so if I can help please do get in touch at cat.smith.mp@parliament.uk.
