I was horrified that learn that on the morning of Morecambe Pride far right graffiti had been scrawled along Morecambe’s Promenade. This graffiti was homophobic, racist and antisemitic.

I was concerned to hear too that the march was disrupted by protesters shouting homophobic conspiracy theories at those in the parade.

People in attendance raised with me concerns about the policing of the event and their response to these incidents.

I have written to Lancashire Constabulary asking them to learn the lessons from this incident and to do more to support the LGBT+ community in the face of rising incidents of transphobia, homophobia and biphobia within our community.

I pay tribute to those volunteers who helped organise Morecambe Pride, the Lancaster City Council workers who speedily cleared the graffiti and Police on the scene.
