This week we prepare for Remembrance Sunday. Whilst down in Westminster over the last few days, I planted the Remembrance stake in the Constituency Garden of Remembrance dedicated to all the fallen in Lancaster and Fleetwood.

Also, I had the pleasure of supporting the Poppy Appeal by taking part in the Poppy Ride before my working day yesterday. This was the seventh annual IPT Poppy Ride, in association with the Royal British Legion, which raises funds and awareness for the Poppy Appeal in Parliament. MPs take part in a 10-hour static bike ride, each cycling as far as we can in 5 minutes, trying to beat our colleagues. All money raised helps the Royal British Legion provide lifelong financial, social, and emotional support for the Armed Forces community.

This weekend on remembrance Sunday our community will join together to honour and pay tribute to the bravery and selflessness of the men and women who have fought in wars and conflicts, many of whom made the ultimate sacrifice. It ensures that their memory lives on and that their courage is never forgotten. Paying tribute to Armistice Day cultivates national unity and gratitude, transcending that which divides us, and encourages reflection on the consequences of war and the importance of always working towards peace and reconciliation.

It is important that we shine a light on our brave veterans, serving military personnel and their families, and provide a welcoming space for them to come together, share their experiences, and find support and camaraderie within our amazing community.

There are many annual civic events that you can attend, including the Remembrance Sunday Parade in Lancaster. I am pleased that this year I will be going to several across the area. I would strongly encourage those of you that are able, to come along to at least one. Though every year this day is sorrowful, I always look forward to seeing and standing with so many of you to emphasise the need for a peaceful future and express deep gratitude to those who have served so bravely.
