It was brilliant to meet with Dan from the charity Sustrans – custodians of the National Cycle Network, and Lancashire County Councillor/Morecambe and Lunesdale Labour Parliamentary Candidate, Lizzi Collinge to discuss the Lune Valley Greenway. Sustrans have made brilliant improvements locally. They shared details for further ambitions to radically improve cycleways and footpaths across our area, better connecting communities and making sustainable travel much easier and safer. Whilst we are waiting for Lancashire County Council to publish decisions from their Travel Survey to determine plans for cycling and walking networks I, alongside Cllr Lizzi Collinge and Sustrans will continue to work to advocate for the existing network of footpaths and cycle routes to be joined up, safer, direct, and more convenient.

Alex Miller, Network Development Manager at Sustrans, said –

“It was great to meet Cat and Lizzi to discuss the recent improvements we have made to the Lune Valley Greenway. The greenway is already a well-loved path for people walking and cycling, as well as a quiet space for nature. We hope that it can become a vibrant, multi-user, green corridor for both people and nature. Eventually we aim for the route to follow the direction of the River Lune from Lancaster to Kirkby Lonsdale, then head across to Ingleton, linking communities as we go. But we can’t do this alone, and it’s great to have Cat and Lizzi’s support as we work on the next phase.”
