Cat Smith Working for Lancaster and Wyre
Last month the Environment Agency served Notice against Transwaste, advising that temporary capping should be in place by the 15th May – today.
The Government have responded to My and Lorraine Beaver’s request for a meeting – and we’ve been entirely dismissed.
Transwaste have admitted yesterday that they have failed to complete the temporary capping, advising “Lining work continues, but initial external delays beyond our control and bad weather have delayed progress slightly. However, as we approach completion, there should be a cumulative and noticeable reduction in odour as the face is sealed.”
The company’s excuses simply do not wash. Transwaste have prioritised profit over regulation and the health of residents by continuing to accept dozens of lorries full of new waste from across the country every week during the Notice period, whilst being slow to complete the cap.
Both I and Lorraine Beavers are now demanding that the Environment Agency remove the permit for Transwaste to process all waste until a permanent cap is in place, removing the toxic odour from the community.
