Cat Smith Working for Lancaster and Wyre
It was a great pleasure to join the brilliant pupils at Moorside Primary School and Save Windermere campaigner Matt Staniek last week to talk about sewage dumping and the disgraceful actions of United Utilities contaminating local waterways.
As you might know I have been running my own campaign to Make United Utilities Stop Sewage Dumping and have quizzed the Government and water company bosses to no end, urging for action.
Over the last 6 years there’s been over a million sewage spills in England. One every two-and-a-half minutes. According to research by the Good Law Project, United Utilities dumped the most sewage in 2022. The impact of this is well known: risks to human health, marine life, and we have already seen some rivers in England declared ‘ecologically dead’. This cannot continue.
You can still sign my petition so that I can show the Government and United Utilities the strength of local feeling and tell them that people across Lancaster, Over Wyre and Fleetwood are saying enough is enough.
It was very interesting to hear about all of the work Moorside have been doing on this topic and they had amazing questions for Matt and I.
Thank you for having me Moorside and keep up the good fight, I’m supporting you all the way!
