Over the past few years I have been shouting about road safety in Knott End and Preesall. Primarily this was following several accidents on the very tight Burned House Lane junction, which frequently saw near misses as well as some very nasty collisions between cars and nearby properties.

The road markings had almost completely faded, and Lancashire County Council’s A585 average speed camera scheme was taking much too long to deal with this immediate problem. Following lots of pressure from myself and residents, as well as from shocking CCTV video footage showing very alarming near misses between cars and lorries, I was pleased that Lancashire County Council finally saw sense and repainted this junction. Sadly though, my anger continues, as despite how dangerous this bend is, it remains one of the few zones across the average speed camera scheme that is not yet enforced.

Earlier this year, following dozens of complaints about speeding in Knott End, particularly down the Esplanade and Quail Holme Road, I was pleased to push Lancashire County Council into action by getting them to install additional speed awareness signage on Quail Holme Road between July-September this year, and once again next January to March 2024.

Like many residents however, I was saddened to hear about the serious accident recently on Lancaster Road. I have raised speeding issues in Knott End with Lancashire County Council time and time again, and it is infuriating that we are still having the same discussions and very little has changed.

I have now written to the council again, sharing my deep concern about this situation and asking for serious, permanent interventions to reduce speeding across Knott End, particularly highlighting Lancaster Road, Esplanade, Barton Avenue and Quail Holme Road.
